NeuLAND: The high-resolution neutron time-of-flight spectrometer for R3B at FAIR

NeuLAND (New Large-Area Neutron Detector) is the next-generation neutron detector for R3B (Reactions with Relativistic Radioactive Beams) experiment at FAIR (Facility Antiproton and Ion Research). detects neutrons energies from 100 to 1000 MeV, featuring a high detection efficiency, spatial time resolution, large multi-neutron reconstruction efficiency. This achieved by highly granular design of organic scintillators: 3000 individual submodules size 5 × 250 cm3 are arranged in 30 double planes each, providing an active area cm2 total depth 3 m. The resolution due granularity together σt≤ 150 ps ensures high-resolution capabilities. In conjunction calorimetric properties, efficiency 50% 70% four-neutron events will be achieved, depending on both emission scenario boundary conditions allowed method.
